Sport Kite Competition 101

An introduction to the excitement of competition flying!

RWRSKC 2008 is a regional, “no pressure” competition for novice, experienced, and master sport kite competitors. RWRSKC is meant to be a “stepping stone” to AKA and Eastern League competition; an opportunity for fliers new to the world of sport kiting to experience competition in an intimate, instructional setting.

The main purpose of RWRSKC is to teach new fliers the rules, procedures, and strategy of sport kite competition. Novice events will be preceded by a flier briefing, where fliers will have an opportunity to review compulsory figures, rules, and ask general questions. Novice events will be followed by a “debriefing”, where judges from the event will offer fliers advice based on what was seen on the competition field. Fliers will be encouraged to ask questions of the judges.

There will also be various demonstrations by experienced sport kite fliers as well as Open-class Ballet events.

It is the hope of the organizers of RWRSKC that this event will provide a solid “stepping stone” to the larger AKA and Eastern League events such as the Outer Banks Stunt Kite Competition held in Kill Devil Hills, NC on October 18-19, 2008, the Mid-Atlantic Sport Kite Championships held in Ocean City, MD, on April 24-26, 2009, and the Old Dominion Sport Kite Championships held in Richmond, VA on June 20-21, 2009.
